What CMS system for OKFN

Requirements

Per-project:

  • webspace
  • basic cms for webspace ??
  • access control (need some privacy)
  • mailing lists
  • wikis
  • contact management (optional)
  • event organization (optional)

Options:

  1. drupal (plain) but then customized.
    • Do you get one installation for each project or one for entire system?
    • Need to share some data such as usernames. Want to allow quite a lot of customization.
    • Could one centralize certain functions such as event organization

  2. civicspace: http://civicspacelabs.org/

    • drupal-based

    • many extra features (http://civicspacelabs.org/features)

    • not yet stable. as usual would like some things but not others (e.g. has its own mail system rather than mailman i think)
  3. gforge
    • more for development purposes.
    • separate item really
  4. Apache Cocoon + Lenya
    • not so well supported
    • xml+xslt based and uses java + jsp

Drupal

  • Drupal and Ldap. See this post: http://drupal.org/node/9850 that suggests it is possible to get this working

  • need to find more documentation on customization

GForge

  • not too bad to install on debian but seem to involve quite a bit of apt-get bombing out
  • tends to use up quite a few bits of the system so you might want a seperate system (chrooted or actual machine) when installing
